Dallas Millennials: Networking After Dark
Hey everyone, we have something to tell you about. It started about a month or so ago when I came across Dallas Millennials and their Networking after Dark event on Eventbrite. I had heard some interesting thing about their last while out in the city so I was interested. Long story short, I checked it out and was not disappointed. I had my camera in the car to cover another concert that night so I thought why not and proceeded to capture some footage. My associate and I met some very interesting people and some brands we were excited to do business with. I knew then that this we had to get involved in the next one and meet more of these people. We came back for the September event and brought a few more friends. I could sit here and type about it all day or you could check out the content below and meet them yourself.

Above you heard plenty of awesome tips, but one recurring theme was being authentic. One of the most important things about the way you do business and connect with others is you. Embrace your personal story and use it to empower your message. Let’s expand on this and talk about 3 things you can do to help bring out that authenticity and overcome any nerves that may be holding us back from being the best versions of ourselves.
1. Drop the Script (No One’s Got Time for It Anyway)
We’ve all been there: rehearsing your elevator pitch until you can recite it backwards. But trust me, no one’s looking for the perfect "networking robot." Be yourself, even if that means tripping over a word or two. Think of it this way—everyone loves a human moment, like accidentally calling someone “dude” in a business setting. It’s quirky and makes you more memorable!
2. Embrace the Awkwardness
Feeling awkward at a networking event is as inevitable as traffic during rush hour. Instead of pretending like you’re totally comfortable, own it! Say something like, "I never know what to do with my hands at these things—any tips?" It’ll make you relatable, and someone might just bond with you over the mutual awkwardness of small talk.
3. Don’t Be Afraid to Brag a Little (But Keep It Real)
If you're worried about sounding like you're bragging, try this: whenever you're tempted to undersell yourself, imagine you're hyping up your best friend. Would you tell people they were "kind of" good at their job? Nah! Give yourself the same energy. Just make sure you’re still humble enough to laugh about the time you replied “LOL” to a CEO's serious email. Balance is key!
Networking doesn’t have to be a performance. Sometimes, the best connections come from a laugh over shared awkwardness or an honest conversation about what makes you, you.
