Another Dallas Comedy Check
with Luscious Barbie
Last Saturday I stopped by Pop Up DFW to check out the latest production by Luscious Barbie. Chances are if you’ve spent a decent amount of time in Dallas, you’ve heard the “Another Dallas Texas Cheeeck!” tagline and it seems that Luscious is always up to something. I’ve attended her comedy shows in the past and I don’t recall ever being disappointed, however this time was particularly delightful. This rather moderate night had one of the most solid comedy line-ups I’ve had the pleasure of seeing recently.
Somehow, despite having a very busy day, I managed to be right on time so I was able to catch every act. I even had time to get a good buzz going, you know so I could digest the comedy a little easier. First up was Alex Berrios. I’d never seen her perform, but that’s my loss because she was hilarious. A couple of jokes definitely caught us off guard, but had us rolling when the punchlines hit. Next up was G Baby. I actually had to take a business call when she came on stage, but she was just too funny and I never even made it out. I ended up sitting back down and staying tuned for the entire set. We spoke briefly after she performed and I’m definitely a fan, looking forward to seeing her back on stage. Okay so now it was definitely time for me to step out and I managed to make it to the next room, but then I hear Funny Xay and the crowd through the wall and couldn’t even focus on my conversation! I found myself literally listening through the walls and laughing on the other side. I’m still kicking myself for not being front row and center during the performance. Next up was Happie Angie and I couldn’t miss this one. You have no idea what’s about to come out her mouth, but you know that it’s going to be funny! I was back up front for this one and she did not disappoint. SHE WILL SAY ANYTHING and didn’t hold back at all, and at this point my side started hurting so I had to get another drink to ease the pain. That means at this point the order got a little fuzzy haha, but these next performances did not ease up on the comedy at all.
I was happy to see that Live Dynasty Ent was in the building. We have a long relationship and had the chance to talk a little business before their artists Marco Cxupreme and Tru Banks hit the stage. I didn’t plan on capturing any media this night, I had been recording content all day and needed a break, but I had to run out and grab a camera for the second half. After some live performances from my guys, it was time for some more comedy. I believe it was Edd the Great up next. Another first for me, and I just knew we were due for a light act, but I couldn’t have been more wrong. His dry sense of humor was gold and he had the entire audience engaged the entire time. At this point, I’m like where did Luscious find all these gems and where the hell have I been? Alright so Luscious is back on stage and tells us that the brother in the back with the soul food tamales (yea you heard me) in the back also is a comedian. Okay so everyone in the building is funny tonight? YES! Leon told one of the most hilarious stories I’ve ever heard. Delivery was flawless. I’m not exaggerating, everything that came out this man’s mouth was a hit. Last but definitely not least was Trey Mack. Now I’ve seen Trey Mack perform before so I knew we were about to have a good time. I also knew sitting in the front row was dangerous, but it was worth it lol. He took it easy on me, but still brought the heat. I was at about all that I could handle at this point and Trey Mack did not let up with the jokes. He’s just a naturally funny guy and his improv game is impeccable. Then as a special surprise my guy https://www.instagram.com/killabkilld/ blessed the stage with a final performance.
All in all, one of the most impressive line-ups I’ve seen, especially for such a small show. This could have easily entertained a very large audience. I’m excited to see how these comedians advance their careers. Major shout out to Luscious for putting on another dope show.
